CFISD 2016 Rodeo Art Winners Announced

Langham Creek High School senior Avery Patton won Best of Show in the High School division of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Program for “Moo.”

Jan. 16, 2016—CFISD’s winners in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) School Art Program were announced this week after a panel of judges from the HLSR organization chose the top artwork from CFISD student artists. The selections have been taken to NRG Arena for the next level of the contest.

Of the 596 entries from CFISD students, a total of 13 winners were selected in the High School, Junior High and Elementary divisions that will be displayed in the Hayloft Gallery at NRG Center during the HLSR, March 1-20.

Cy-Fair High School sophomore Alina Holder won a gold medal in the High School division for “Talkin’ Turkey.”

In the High School division:

  • Cy-Fair High School sophomore Alina Holder won a gold medal for her artwork titled “Talkin’ Turkey;”

Cypress Lakes High School senior Chris Feliciano won a gold medal in the High School division for “Subtle Remembrance.”

  • Cypress Lakes High School senior Chris Feliciano won a gold medal for his artwork titled “Subtle Remembrance;”
  • Cypress Woods High School senior Will Petrich won an award of special merit for his artwork titled “Black & White Cabin;”
  • Cypress Lakes sophomore Luis Silva won an award of special merit for his artwork titled “Western Kit;”
  • Cypress Woods junior Briana Uchendu won an award of special merit for her artwork titled “Turkey;”
  • Cypress Lakes junior Sarah Angeles Sequera won an award of special merit for her artwork titled “A Curious Musician;”
  • Cypress Lakes sophomore Janice Khang won an award of special merit for her artwork titled “Observed Thought;” and
  • Cypress Lakes senior Alexandria Guerrero won an award of special merit for her artwork titled “A Night to Remember.”

Thornton Middle School eighth-grade student Laura Gonzalez won Best of Show in the Junior High division of the HLSR School Art Program for “Nature’s Beauty.”

In the Junior High division:

  • Thornton Middle School eighth-grade student Laura Gonzalez won Best of Show for her artwork titled “Nature’s Beauty;” and
  • Truitt Middle School eighth-grade student Thanh Le won a gold medal for his artwork titled “Show Time.”

Ault Elementary School fifth-grade student Ivy Wang won Best of Show in the Elementary division of the HLSR School Art Program for “Horse in the Desert.”

In the Elementary division:

  • Ault Elementary School fifth-grade student Ivy Wang won Best of Show for her artwork titled “Horse in the Desert;” and
  • Tipps Elementary School fifth-grade student Jacob Hernandezwon a gold medal for his artwork titled “Native Texan.”

The rodeo art exhibit will be displayed in the hallways of CFISD’s Instructional Support Center (10300 Jones Road) through Jan. 25, and is open to the public during regular business hours. A special gallery showing for parents of the artists will be held Jan. 21 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
